About the Workshop:

In an era of increasing sociopolitical challenges to individual identities, mental health practitioners are uniquely positioned to demonstrate allyship in ways that support and empower clients. This 1-hour presentation provides a practical framework for integrating social justice principles into clinical practice while navigating the complexities of implicit bias and undue influence. Participants will explore ethical considerations surrounding the expression of personal beliefs and biases, learning how to strike a balance between authenticity and professional neutrality. By the end of the session, attendees will gain actionable strategies for fostering inclusive, ethical, and client-centered care that aligns with principles of equity and justice.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this workshop, attendees will be able to:
1.) Understand the Role of Allyship in Clinical Practice:
Participants will be able to define allyship and explain its significance in supporting clients facing sociopolitical challenges, with a focus on promoting equity and social justice within therapeutic relationships.

2.) Analyze the Impact of Implicit Bias and Undue Influence:
Participants will learn to identify implicit biases and undue influence in their clinical practice, understanding their ethical implications and how they affect client care and decision-making.

3.) Implement Inclusive and Culturally Humble Practices:
Participants will develop strategies for fostering diversity and inclusion in clinical practice, including recognizing and addressing identity-based threats and advocating for clients from marginalized backgrounds in a culturally responsive and ethical manner.
