NPA Ethics Committee

Objective
The fundamental objectives of the NPA Ethics Committee is to promote ethical conduct by members at the highest professional level, to educate members concerning ethical standards; to contribute to the protection of the public against harmful conduct by all members; and to aid the Association in achieving its objectives as reflected in its Bylaws. 

The NPA Ethics Committee researches and provides ethical guidance to the Board as needed, and also serves as a consultation resource to NPA psychologists on questions related to the ethics of psychological practice.

Goals of the Ethics Committee
1.) Respond to inquiries related to Ethics and Standards of Practice.
2.) Educate members and the public regarding the ethical and professional responsibilities of psychologists.
3.) Consult with the Nevada Psychological Association Board of Directors, NV Board of Psychological Examiners, and public and private agencies, regarding ethics, conduct, and standards of practice of psychologists.
4.)  Establish rules and procedures for conducting the business of the committee as approved by the NPA Board of Directors.
5.)  Monitor developments in the field of professional psychology pertaining to the roles, standards and functioning of psychologists in the state of Nevada and make recommendations to the Board of Directors where indicated.

Sonia Dhaliwal, Psy.D.
Dr. Sonia Dhaliwal is a Licensed Psychologist and is currently the owner of Dhaliwal Psychological Services LLC in Las Vegas, NV. Dr. Dhaliwal completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Hawaii at Manoa where she majored in Psychology and minored in Asian Philosophy. She then went on to pursue a master’s degree in counseling psychology and an APA accredited doctoral degree in clinical psychology at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon. Dr. Dhaliwal completed an APA accredited clinical internship at Michigan State University followed by a post-doctoral year of training at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas (UNLV). 

Dr. Dhaliwal currently serves as president of the Southern Regional Board of the Nevada Psychological Association (NPA) and is also the chair of the Ethics committee for NPA. Dr. Dhaliwal takes an evidence-based and strong multicultural approach to therapy. Identifying as a multiracial immigrant, she has a strong passion and commitment to working with the immigrant population. Dr. Dhaliwal also has training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Interpersonal Process Therapy and Emotion Focused Therapy. Dr. Dhaliwal believes that exploring interpersonal dynamics as well as understanding the role of emotion is imperative for genuine psychotherapeutic change.
